From Sunlight To Sustainability

For over a decade, BOSCO Uganda has worked tirelessly to bridge the digital divide by bringing internet connectivity to rural communities. With generous funding from the Internet Society Foundation(ISOC), we are implementing critical solar power upgrades across multiple sites in Gulu City, Omoro, Pader and Agago Districts respectively to ensure stable and reliable Power and long lasting connectivity. This has been done in the order of priorities as folows.

Bardege ICT Centre

Bosco Uganda’s Bardege ICT centre is the core of connectivity across Northern Uganda and that made it a top priority for the power upgrade, and this upgrade include Solar Panels and Solar batteries. Previously there were Ten 250Watts Solar panels and Eight 12volts Solar batteries that have been running the centre for several years and with the upgrade Eight new 500Watts Solar panels and Six new 24v lithium ion batteries were installed, this means more power and longevity.

Radio Maria Tower

Radio Maria tower is another vital structure in BOSCO Uganda’s connectivity because it is the gate way that connects the rest of Northern Uganda, which made it one of the top priorities,  so previously this site had four 125watts solar panels and two 12 v batteries and a charge controller plus an inverter, but with the ongoing upgrade, two 350watts solar panels, 2 new 24v lithium ion batteries, and a multifunctional inverter were installed to combat power interruptions and maintain constant and reliable connectivity.

Radio Pacis Tower

Radio Pacis Tower plays a key role in keeping Amuru District connected as part of BOSCO Uganda’s network. This important site used to run on four 125 watt solar panels and two 12V batteries with basic power equipment. But now, thanks to recent upgrades, it’s powered by two high efficiency 350 watt solar panels, two advanced 24V lithium ion batteries, and a multifunctional inverter. These improvements mean fewer power cuts and more reliable internet access for the communities in Amuru District

Opit Tower

Opit tower is what connects to Pader and it was important to get it upgraded because as well due to the fact that the previously installed solar equipment was also degrading, so 2 new solar panels, a multifunctional inverter and two new solar batteries were installed to improve the power stability and output.  Being a key site for connectivity to Pader district, we wouldn’t have done ourselves justice if we didn’t upgrade it.

Radio Rapa Tower

This tower is the critical entry point for BOSCO Uganda’s internet network. Without it, places like Kalongo wouldn’t stay online. To ensure a solid connectivity, we’ve upgraded its power system swapping out the old 125W solar panels and 12V batteries for high efficiency 350W solar panels, 24V lithium ion batteries, and a smart hybrid inverter. Now, Radio Rapa delivers, more reliable internet to the entire region, rain or shine.

Kalongo Hill Bosco Tower

Sitting between Radio Rapa and Wang Ooh, this tower acts as the backbone for internet access in Agago and surrounding communities. If it goes down, connectivity suffers across the region. That’s why we’ve given it a major power boost replacing outdated solar panels and batteries with 350W solar arrays, 24V lithium batteries, and a high capacity inverter. Now, connected communities in Agago enjoy stable, uninterrupted internet because everyone deserves a strong connection.

Radio Wang Ooh Tower

This tower is the final link in BOSCO Uganda’s Northern Uganda network, bringing internet access to unconnectedareas like Patongo. Without it, many would remain offline.

To prevent disruptions, we’ve upgraded its power supply doubling solar capacity with 350W panels, adding long lasting lithium batteries, and installing a smart inverter. Now, even in harsh weather, Patongo stays connected to the rest of the world.
