ICT Use & Innovations

Under this Pillar, BOSCO-Uganda will contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals; SDG 1-ending poverty by improving digital skills for employability, SDG 4, which promotes inclusive and equitable access to quality education and promotes lifelong learning opportunities for all. Additionally, the programme supports SDG 5 by empowering women and girls through digital skilling, SDG 9 and SDG 10 reduce inequality by fostering innovation and the use of technology to achieve sustainable development. Furthermore, the programme’s focus on enhancing productivity and efficiency while increasing the creation of relevant local content online also aligns with SDG 8, which aims to promote sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all. A report published by Research ICT in Africa about the State of ICT in Uganda pointed out that some of the inhibitors of ICT uptake in Uganda are attributed to lack of electricity which stood at 18%, 36% of those who do not use the internet are illiterate and unaffordability of devices. According to Surf Shark’s (2022) research, Uganda’s internet affordability ranks 116th out of 117 countries surveyed in the world which indicates the need for such services for unserved rural communities. According to NITA-U (2022) report, 94.3% of households do not have access to the Internet and the same report highlights knowledge gaps in addition to the affordability of devices and Internet which is partly why we want to contribute to this sector. Furthermore, the strategic plan of BOSCO Uganda 2025-2029 aligns with the Strategic Vision (2023- 2028) of Information Technology use and Innovations. It contributes to the Digital Agenda, Uganda 2040, National Development Plan IV 2024/2025, and Uganda’s Vision 2030. BOSCO Uganda will therefore in the 5 years contribute to bridging the isolation through ICT use and innovations from 2025-2029.
