Dual Powerhouse Upgrade: Lightning Protection and Solar Overhaul at Pabbo Youth ICT Centre

Pabbo Town Council, Amuru District, Uganda (BOSCO Uganda) – BOSCO Uganda has improved Pabbo Youth ICT Centre with comprehensive infrastructure upgrades, installing lightning arrestors at both the communications tower and main facility while deploying an improved solar system: two 350W high efficiency panels, two 100Ah lithium ion batteries, and a 1kW smart inverter with hybrid grid capability.

This marks a great advancement in the Internet Society Foundation funded resilience program, which has progressively secured Lacor Primary School ICT Centre, Pagak ICT Centre, Alero ICT Centre, Purongo’s God’s Mercy ICT Centre, and the original Warocco Kwo site against Northern Uganda’s relentless lightning storms and chronic power instability. Pabbo upgrades protect the computers, Solar power equipment, and critical networking equipment ensuring uninterrupted service for youth training programs even during the region’s most severe weather events.

Pabbo Youth ICT Centre has long served as a launchpad for digital empowerment, exemplified by trainees like Thompson, who progressed from computer apprehension to becoming a skilled ICT assistant through BOSCO’s capacity building initiatives. These improvements guarantee that Digital literacy training, and job skills development continue without power disruptions.

In Amuru District—where post conflict recovery and digital inclusion remain urgent priorities, the project counters barriers to connectivity that hinder economic mobility for rural youth. Fully funded by Internet Society Foundation, it demonstrates scalable, sustainable technology solutions for off grid communities.

BOSCO Uganda extends heartfelt appreciation to Internet society Foundation for their unwavering partnership and to Pabbo Town Council leaders and residents for their exemplary cooperation throughout implementation.
