“Grace Is Sufficient and Free, but the Pipe That Brings It Needs to Be Serviced”
In an era where digital transformation dictates outreach success, Catholic media and digital communication institutions across Uganda are actively re-engineering their operational models. From October 19 to 24, 2026, the Uganda Episcopal Conference (UEC), through its Social Communication Department, hosted a landmark four-day intensive training program at Ulrika Guest House in Kisubi.
Brought together under the banner of Commercial Communication and Digital Marketing for Revenue Growth and Effective Evangelization, delegates from at least 25 Catholic institutions converged to tackle a critical institutional challenge: bridging the gap between spiritual mission and financial self-reliance.
Moving Beyond Reliance on Goodwill
For years, faith-based media and digital networks have relied heavily on the goodwill and donations of supporters to keep infrastructure running and community outreach active. However, industry leaders emphasize that this traditional model requires complementary revenue frameworks to remain viable long-term.
Addressing the participants, Rev. Fr. Phillip Odi, the Executive Secretary of the UEC Social Communication Department, noted that while spiritual grace is boundless, the physical infrastructure and digital platforms delivering it require financial maintenance.
“Grace is sufficient and free, but the pipe that brings it needs to be serviced. Institutions must generate internal revenue alongside Christian donations to survive and thrive in the long run.”
Echoing this sentiment, Emmanuel Okia, Team Lead and Founder at KearlMark Consults Limited, presented findings from a recent sector survey. He pointed out a glaring dichotomy facing the ecosystem: Catholic media and ICT institutions remain “Rich in Mission but Poor in Systems that generate revenue.” Addressing this vulnerability requires targeted capacity-building to equip personnel with modern commercial strategies and digital monetization tools.
